Hello Improvisers!
I’m starting a monthly improv practice session. The first session is August 1 at 7pm.
Details
- Date: Every month on the first Thursday
- Time: 7:00-8:30pm
- Location: Auditorium at the downtown library (303 E Kirkwood Ave)
- Cost: Free
Format of the practice session
This will evolve over time, but here’s how it will start out:
- Say our names and do a quick warmup
- Spread people around the auditorium in pairs
- We all do 2-person scenes at the same time. Then rotate to the next person and do another scene. By the end of the rotation, you’ve done a scene with everyone.
- We all take a seat. People are put in random pairs. We do 2-person scenes in front of everyone.
In a typical session, you can expect to do:
- ~20 scenes during the “everyone perform at the same time” rotation
- 2 scenes in front of the other attendees
Improv skills handout
You will pick up this handout when you arrive. The handout contains a list of 40+ improv skills, ordered from beginner to advanced.
If you are brand-new to improv, the handout will teach you the fundamentals that you should focus on when trying improv for the first time.
Experienced improvisers can use the handout to choose advanced skills to work on.
Bringing a guest
Bringing a guest is encouraged. Guests can participate or they can simply watch as an audience member. Please share our website, improvbloomington.com, with your guest so they can subscribe to our email list.
