  • October Improv Session is Canceled

    Hello Improvisers!

Thank you to everyone that filled out the availability survey for our October improv session.

Unfortunately, there was not a time that worked for at least 8 people.

Since we didn’t reach the minimum number of attendees, our October session is canceled.

We will try again with a November session. I’ll send out the next availability survey in a few weeks.

  • Availability Survey for Next Improv Session – Please Complete Before Sept 25

    Hello Improvisers!

I’m trying to find the best time for our next improv session.

Please fill out this availability survey before September 25:

    https://calendly.com/d/cpts-xr2-55m/improv-bloomington

We need to find a time that works for at least 8 people.

If we don’t meet that minimum number of people, then we will have to cancel our October session.

I will send out an email on September 25 with an update on the survey results.

  • Changes to improv practice session schedule

    Hello improvisers!

Up to this point, we’ve been doing a practice session on the first Thursday of each month.

I have a conflict on Thursdays for the next few months.

Going forward, let’s try a more flexible approach for the dates we meet for improv.

About every month or so, I’ll send out an availability survey with a few potential dates for an improv practice session.

After people respond, I will choose the date that works for the most people.

Make sure that you have signed up for our email list so you receive the availability surveys and get notified about future improv sessions.

  • Improv practice session on Sept 5 at 7pm at library auditorium

We host an improv practice session on the first Thursday of every month. The next session is September 5.

    • Date: September 5, 2024
    • Time: 7:00-8:30pm
    • Location: Auditorium at the downtown library (303 E Kirkwood Ave)

    Format of the practice session

    1. Say our names and do a quick warmup
    2. Spread people around the auditorium in pairs
    3. We all do 2-person scenes at the same time. Then rotate to the next person and do another scene. By the end of the rotation, you’ve done a scene with everyone.
    4. We all take a seat. People are put in random pairs. We do 2-person scenes in front of everyone.

In a typical session, you can expect to do:

    • ~20 scenes during the “everyone perform at the same time” rotation
    • 2 scenes in front of the other attendees

    Improv skills list

We have a list of improv skills at https://coda.io/@reganstarr/improv-skills

You are encouraged to look through that list before the practice session.

If you are brand-new to improv, that list will tell you the fundamentals you should focus on when trying improv for the first time.

Experienced improvisers can use the list to choose advanced skills to work on during the practice session.

    Bringing a guest

Bringing a guest is encouraged. Guests can participate or they can simply watch as an audience member. Please share our website, improvbloomington.com, with your guest so they can subscribe to our email list.
